How To Accent The Tent For Your Event

The best thing about an outdoor wedding is that it capitalizes on the beauty of nature. Lush greenery, flowers and even the natural beauty of the beach make a beautiful backdrop for your special day. But, unless you live in Arizona or another desert-dry area that isn’t susceptible to inclement weather, your guests might not see as much of it as you would like because they’ll most likely be sitting under a tent during the reception to help shield them from the sun or rain. Whether you choose a tent where the sides can be tied back to create an open space or let down if you need to enclose your reception area, you can have dazzling decorations with these outdoor wedding ideas that help you accent your tent!

1. Hang butterflies from the ceiling to enhance your garden wedding, especially if it’s held in a butterfly garden. You can find them in a variety of colors at craft and party stores.
2. Hide those unattractive poles with columns. Place pillars around the support poles and put a larger version of the wedding centerpieces on top. You can also use potted plants and give them away to the wedding party or special guests after the wedding.
3. Suspend a chandelier in the center of the tent, above the dance floor or over the head table to make those areas more special. It’s also fun to hang paper lanterns throughout.
4. String holiday or rope lights along the seams of the tent to help light the area for an evening reception.
5. Get rid of those white tent walls by splashing a wash of color on the sides of the tent. Consider adding a design or pattern to light, as well. While lighting can get expensive, just some low-cost lighting can take your event from boring to brilliant.
6. Treat your guests with something nice beneath their feet. Especially helpful for morning weddings when the dew may still be on the ground, it also helps to keep chairs from sinking and adds an unexpected touch of color to the floor. Depending on your budget, choose tarp, carpet, sisal, wood flooring or Astro-turf as ground cover.
7. Instead of using chair covers and tie backs, make a clean, sophisticated statement with metallic gold or silver chairs. They will really stand out against the white canvas tent and give your décor a more modern feel.
8. Look for unexpected places to add color to your décor, like placing colored wineglasses on the tables instead of clear ones.
9. For a large celebration of 300-500 guests, it can seem like there is a humongous amount of space to fill. An easy way to fill in the space of a large tent is to drape swags of fabric from the ceiling and mix in a few lanterns for effect.
10. While you can have your wedding without it, tent linings take your décor to another level. Draping the walls with silky fabric gives the space a luxurious look. It’s a great idea for romantic, Victorian and princess wedding themes. Using plain fabric, stripes or colors, there are tons of options available based on the mood you want to create.

TIP: Regardless of which decorations you choose, don’t have cousin Bob on a ladder trying to hang stuff. Tent decorations can be tricky. Be sure to work with your tent rental company to make sure that everything is set up and taken down properly.
