I’ve been saying for a long time now that vows are not about impressing the guests. So thank you for seconding that. Vows are for the couples. Being able to read them at the ceremony makes them more ‘official.’ Meaning that gives them more sticking power.

I suggest that a couple write their vows after they have written down the dream they have for their life together. The vows are the promises they make to each other telling each other what they are going to do to keep the dream alive.

Then, and this is a little known secret: The couple continues to read their vows every day. Sometimes alone and other times together. This gives them an opportunity to settle any problems or situations before they become too big to settle easily.
